Overview

Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is adding a Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon to the group at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County. Kings County Hospital operates a world-renowned Level 1 Trauma Center, one of only three in Brooklyn, which serves 2.6 million residents of Brooklyn and Staten Island. The hospital is academically affiliated with SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in order to maintain its high standards of healthcare delivery.

 

Kings County is located in the East Flatbush/Prospect-Lefferts section of Brooklyn, close to the 2 and 5 subways. Our patients are diverse, with the majority being Afro-Caribbean. Most of our patients are native English speakers. Knowledge of French/Haitian Creole is helpful, but not required.

The trauma fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon provides surgical and non-surgical care to complex orthopedic trauma patients including those with pelvic fractures, complex intra-articular fractures, bone defect and limb lengthening surgery, treatment of osteomyelitis, non-unions, and other complex pathologies requiring advanced knowledge and skill.  The individual will provide currently acceptable standards of advanced care of these complex orthopedic pathologies consistent with the requirements and standards of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery. This individual will also be the orthopedic trauma representative to the multi-disciplinary trauma meetings as required for ACS level one trauma centers as well as participating in providing 24 hour, 7 day per week emergency on call coverage; also an ACS requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and perform surgery on complex orthopedic cases including pelvic fractures, complex long bone and intra-articular fractures, complex fractures of the upper and lower extremities.
  • Participation in the emergency call schedule for orthopedic surgery. 
  • Participation in the ACS trauma multi-disciplinary activities, including data collection and compliance issues required for a level I trauma center.
  • Teaching orthopedic surgery residents, medical students, and physicians assistants.
  • Critical review of orthopedic trauma consultations seen in the Emergency Department and In-Patient units.
  • Outpatient and inpatient surgical and non-surgical care for complex orthopedic trauma as noted above.
  • Orthopedic Liaison to the Multi-disciplinary trauma committee.
  • Responsibility for Quality Programs required by the hospital and the American College of Surgeons.
  • Departmental administration, as required.

Qualifications

  • Orthopedic Trauma Fellowship trained Board Eligible or Certified Orthopedic Surgeon
