The Assistant General Counsel, as part of PAGNY’s Office of the General Counsel, is responsible for analyzing, managing, and advising on general corporate matters, contracts and agreements, and labor and employment issues for the organization.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality strategic and legal advice to management and leadership on employment, corporate and health law issues
  • Assists in legal review of projects within the Office of the General Counsel
  • Drafts, negotiates, and approves legal agreements between the Company and external service providers
  • Draft memoranda of understanding, position statements, policies and procedures, meeting minutes, resolutions, and various corporate related documents
  • Perform internal investigations of employee-related issues and disputes
  • Provide advice and counsel to the Human Resources Department on employment and labor issues that arise
  • Develop and present in-house training programs in conjunction with the Human Resources Department
  • Provide proactive guidance to mitigate risk and liability for the company
  • Supervise/monitor the activities of retained outside counsel
  • Other tasks commensurate with the position of an Assistant General Counsel
  • 5 days per week on site required

Qualifications

  • Law Degree from an accredited law school
  • Licensed and registered to practice law in New York State
  • Seven or more years of relevant, progressive experience as a practicing lawyer required
  • In-house experience required
  • Employment law knowledge and experience with applicable federal and state laws and regulations required
  • Health care law knowledge related to Stark, anti-kickback, and fraud and abuse, required
  • Experience in unionized healthcare organizations preferred
  • Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision and address a variety of legal issues

Ideal candidate will be a quick study and able to think strategically while also being detail-oriented; work well under pressure; able to handle multiple priorities; have excellent interpersonal, speaking and writing skills; a strong academic background; excellent analytical and advising skills; and demonstrate judgment and discretion.  Looking for someone to take a hands-on role within a small, but dynamic, Legal Department.
