Under the supervision of Midwifery Services and direction of the OB/GYN Division, provides antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, neonatal, interconceptional and gynecological care in accordance with written midwifery protocols which have been approved by the Institution's Medical Board.

  1. Demonstrates knowledge of the Privacy and Security rules outlined in the HIPAA guidelines.
  2. Successfully completes the mandatory three day Health + Hospitals orientation.
  3. Adheres and conforms to all hospital and departmental guidelines, policies and procedures.
  4. Plans and provides healthcare for women and newborn infants.
  5. Establishes complete database concerning the patient through history taking, physical examination and appropriate laboratory data.
  6. Assesses the status of the patient, develops and implements a plan of care with the patient during the prenatal, intrapartal, postpartal, neonatal and interconceptional/gynecological periods.
  7. Provides guidance and education for patients and families concerning health maintenance, admission and discharge, and other labor management (including physical and emotional support).
  8. Manages labor, including delivery of the newborn, utilizes medication and performs procedures.
  9. Provides immediate and follow-up care of the newborn infant, including and ongoing assessment and follow-up with the postpartum family.
  10. Seeks medical consultation for patients with deviations form standards/guidelines
  11. Performs ongoing review of care, including evaluation and documentation in the medical record.
  12. Provides contraceptive guidance and evaluation and treatment for minor gynecological conditions.
  13. Prepares daily work log as required.
  14. Adheres to the departmental attendance policy.
  15. All other duties as required by the department.



 Licensure as a Midwife by the New York State Department of Education.
