Responsibilities

Job Description: Under the supervision of a Physician and in collaboration of Surgical Residents, Physician Assistant will provide inpatient care in SICU, ED and inpatient units. The Duties and Responsibilities include all of the following and are not limited to:

  • Performs comprehensive and problem-focused Histories and physical examinations
  • Diagnoses and treats illnesses and injuries
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and radiographic studies
  • Performs appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies
  • Performs minor surgical procedures including suture of lacerations, l&D of abscesses, excision of cystic lesions, etc.
  • Application of casts and splints for hand/finger fractures
  • Performs first and second assist duties
  • Conducts daily SICU/floor rounds
  • Writes orders and progress notes
  • Evaluates and clarifies clinical conditions
  • Formulates and implements treatment and therapeutic plans for hospitalized patients
  • Handles discharge planning and dictates discharge summaries
  • Renders emergency care
  • Facilitates patient referral to the appropriate physician/service
  • Educates and counsels patients
  • Answers consults from the ED and other wards for General Surgery and it's subspecialties including vascular, thoracic, Breast, Colorectal, Plastics, Head & Neck/ENT, Hand.

 

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program
  • Current Board Certification from the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Licensed Physician Assistant by the New York State Department of Education 
  • A Bachelor's degree
  • Current BLS certification
  • D.E.A. Certificate
  • Infection Control Certificate
