    In partnership with NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island our teams accommodate more than 250,000 outpatient visits, more than 89,000 emergency room visits, and with 371 beds, more than 15,000 inpatient admissions annually. The hospital maintains a strong academic affiliation with SUNY Downstate Medical Center and New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in order to maintain its high standards of healthcare delivery.


    • Comprehensive clinical duties within the department, as required

    • Supervision of allied health providers
    • Primary designee for Chairperson, as required
    • Additional duties as required by Chairperson
    • 50% will be administrative

    Other Responsibilities:

    • Assist with the recruitment and development of departmental-staff and work to remove impediments that would prevent staff from functioning at the highest level
    • Assist with the creation of innovative delivery models that further the mission of the Department of Surgery and the overall goals of H+H/Coney Island Hospital
    • Provide leadership in the areas of medical education and research
    • Serve on Department of Surgery as well as Coney Island leadership committees, based on the recommendation of the Chairperson of Surgery
    • Work with the Chair to set patient care standards, establish clinical goals and objects to ensure the strategic implementation of best practices
    • Provide clinical administrative guidance and consultative direction to medical staff within their respective division
    • Engage in strategic planning with hospital executive and clinical leadership to develop programming within their respective discipline which aligns with overall hospital strategic plan
    • Develop and collect performance metrics which the facility may utilize to plan, implement or quality patient care programs
    • Ensure effective transparent communication with clinical and operational leadership to ensure effective delivery of services within the division
    • Ensure the regular and appropriate assessment of physician competency and intervene and mediate as appropriate when required, in conjunction with the Chair
    • Maintain the highest level of professionalism and function within the Behavioral Code of Conduct and Bylaws of Coney Island Hospital, and further departmental goals by serving as a member of departmental leadership
    • Foster the Academic development of Department of Surgery Staff
    • Participate with the Hospital in the development and implementation of mechanisms and measures to optimize the appropriate utilization of medical services, quality assurance and patient satisfaction at the Hospital
    • Participate in other related responsibilities as assigned by the Employer, the Executive Director and/or the Medical Director of the Hospital
    • With the Chair, plan joint programs and procedures with other departments for coordinating services with other patient care services
    • With the Chair, establishes services capital equipment needs and capital equipment purchasing plan
    • Acts as direct supervisor and consultant for all staff within the service, as required
    • Maintain knowledge of Patient Safety Requirements
    • Participates in medical education meetings to improve and provide continuous quality care to our patients.
    • Determines the qualifications and competence of department personnel who perform medical/surgical services
    • Establishes mechanisms for orientating and providing in-service training for new staff within the department
    • Develop, maintain and update Division Policies and Procedures, as required
