NYC Health + Hospitals/Correctional Health Services is responsible for the delivery of medical and behavioral health care, social work services, discharge planning and reentry services 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. CHS is a national leader in the delivery of health care to the justice-involved population and works continuously to improve access to, and quality and continuity of, care within the jail system.

Responsibilities

Under supervision of the Health Service Administrator/On Island Administrator, the Administrative Assistant is responsible for assisting in the overall Operation of Rikers Island, this position would sit at the Vernon C. Bain Center at 1 Halleck Street, Bronx, NY.

  • Must be able to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to handle payroll related questions and pre-generate time keeping records
  • Ability to maintain matrix par levels by checking staff attendance and replacing staff as needed.
  • Ability to maintain data and/or informative reports on logs and databases.
  • Ability to handle a high call volume, receive and disseminate important information related to medical services.
  • Ability to work in a Correctional setting.
  • Ona needed basis, must be able to collect and disseminate medical related information to inmates/patients.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED equivalent required
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as an Administrative Assistant/or medical secretary
  • Excellent computer skills required, including word processing such as MS word, MS excel, Power Point and typing skills of a minimum of 50 WPM
  • Must have excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Must be well-organized and have excellent time managment skills.
