In partnership with NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx our teams handle more than 156,000 outpatient visits, more than 50,000 emergency room visits and more than 7,500 admissions annually in the 232-bed facility. The hospital maintains an academic affiliation with the James J. Peters VA Medical Center.


Under the supervision of Midwifery Services and direction of the OB/GYN Division, provides antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, neonatal, interconceptional and gynecological care in accordance with written midwifery protocols which have been approved by the Institution's Medical Board.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the Privacy and Security rules outlined in the HIPAA guidelines.
  • Successfully completes the mandatory three day Health + Hospitals orientation.
  • Adheres and conforms to all hospital and departmental guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Plans and provides healthcare for women and newborn infants.
  • Establishes complete database concerning the patient through history taking, physical examination and appropriate laboratory data.
  • Assesses the status of the patient, develops and implements a plan of care with the patient during the prenatal, intrapartal, postpartal, neonatal and interconceptional/gynecological periods.
  • Provides guidance and education for patients and families concerning health maintenance, admission and discharge, and other labor management (including physical and emotional support).
  • Manages labor, including delivery of the newborn, utilizes medication and performs procedures.
  • Provides immediate and follow-up care of the newborn infant, including and ongoing assessment and follow-up with the postpartum family.
  • Seeks medical consultation for patients with deviations form standards/guidelines
  • Performs ongoing review of care, including evaluation and documentation in the medical record.
  • Provides contraceptive guidance and evaluation and treatment for minor gynecological conditions.
  • Prepares daily work log as required.
  • Adheres to the departmental attendance policy.
  • All other duties as required by the department.



  • Licensure as a Midwife by the New York State Department of Education.
  • Previous experience in outpatient clinic settings.
