  • Overview

    In partnership with NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan our teams provide care for over 313,000 outpatient visits, nearly 70,000 emergency room visits and more than 13,000 inpatient admissions annually. The hospital maintains an academic affiliation with New York Medical College.


    As Chief of a small department, (3 full-time Attendings including the Chief), the physician in this job MUST also serve as a full-time Neurologist.  As such, he/she will attend clinic at least four half-days a week, regularly participate in the other aspects of the departmental work rotation which consists of teaching students, seeing consults in the medicine, surgery, psychiatry and rehab wards as well as all emergency rooms.  In addition, he/she will be on call for Neurology at least one week every three weeks. 


    Duties of the Chief include:

    • Attending and reporting to the medical board each month and preparing quarterly for Quality Improvement meetings
    • Oversight of the Stroke Center function, working closely with the stroke coordinator and holding monthly meetings to monitor and improve the care of stroke patients.  Ideally, the Chief should be qualified to also serve as Stroke Director, and if they are not prepared for this they will have to fulfill the criteria to become a Stroke Director.
    • Maintain the lecyures given to medicine residents in the noon conference.
    • Maintain the On-call Neurology schedule.
    • Ground Rounds for Neurology, Medicine, Psychiatry and Rehab Departments participating in preparation for Joint Comission inspections.
    • Supervises and documents the functions of the Neurologists on the staff and and approves timesheets.
    • Recruits and signs off on applications.
    • Demonstrated leadership and managerial abilities are essential including personnel, finance, quality and clinical resource managment
    • A PLUS, to be able to read electroencephalograms and oversees the function of the EEG lab.



    • ABMS BC/BE in Neurology
    • Current, valid and unrestricted license to practice medicine in accordance with the laws of the State of New York
    • Valid DEA registration
    • Board Certified in Neurology with two years of experience
    • Status MUST be in good standing with the Medicare and Medicaid programs
