With approximately 55,000 admissions per year and an average daily population of 10,000, the NYC jail system is one of the largest in the nation. NYC Health + Hospitals/Correctional Health Service (CHS) is a national leader in the delivery of healthcare to the justice-involved population and, with PAGNY’s active support, aspires to the highest standards of care with the goal of meeting or exceeding what is available in the community.
NYC Health + Hospitals/Correctional Health Service (CHS) is seeking a highly trained physician or other appropriately trained clinician to provide acupuncture services to incarcerated patients in the NYC jail system. Inmate patients regularly sustain injuries prior to arrest or during incarceration and often carry significant burdens of psychological and physical trauma. Symptoms of chronic pain, insomnia, anxiety, sadness can often be medicalized and treated with pharmacologic treatment in ways that may not be ideal for patient care. As part of a broader wellness initiative, CHS is seeking to provide a broad range of non-pharmacologic therapies for a range of condititions. Healthcare staff work as part of a care delivery team with strong administrative support, integrated nursing and mental health. Additional responsibilities will include Education, Quality Improvement and Population Health work.
