    In partnership with NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island our teams accommodate more than 250,000 outpatient visits, more than 89,000 emergency room visits, and with 371 beds, more than 15,000 inpatient admissions annually. The hospital maintains a strong academic affiliation with SUNY Downstate Medical Center and New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in order to maintain its high standards of health-care delivery.


    Perform, under the responsibility and supervision of a physician, diagnostic and therapeutic tasks to allow the physician to extend his/her services. Within the physician/ physician assistant relationship, physician assistants may exercise autonomy in decision making within the constraints of appropriate experience and training. Physician Assistant practice is centered on patient care and may include educational, research and administrative activities.  This position covers the surgical floor, OR and clinics.



    • Elicit a detailed and accurate medical history, perform a complete physical examination and record all pertinent data
    • Perform and/or interpret and/or order routine diagnostic studies including routine laboratory procedures, common radiological studies and EKG tracings
    • Inform the supervising physician of all changes in the patients conditions and pertinent diagnostic results
    • Perform therapeutic procedures, including injections, nasogastric and urinary catheterization, and insertion of intravenous lines
    • Perform patient rounds, collect data and write pertinent progress notes on charts
    • Refer to appropriate sub-speciality consultants
    • Counsel patients regarding physical and mental health, as well as provide patient information on nutrition, health promotion, pertinent health education and, if needed continued care
    • Develop management plans in accordance with established protocols in conjunction with the attending physician 

    Organizational Relationships:

    • Report to the Director of the Department and the designated supervising physician(s)
    • Report administratively to the Director of Physician Assistant Services and/or designee
    • Work collaboratively with the representatives from dietary, nursing, respiratory, social services and other patient care/ support service departments


    • Graduation from CAAHEP ( Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs ) Accredited Physician Assistant educational program
    • Current NYS registration as a Physician Assistant
    • Current certification/admissibility issued by the NCCPA ( National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants)
    • In addition, must have proven ability to work in a team environment and must be able to interact with patients and their families in manner that instills confidences and facilitates communication
