  • Overview

    In partnership with NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan our teams provide care for over 313,000 outpatient visits, nearly 70,000 emergency room visits and more than 13,000 inpatient admissions annually. The hospital maintains an academic affiliation with New York Medical College.


    PM&R Clerkship Director Functions:

    • Organise,coordinate and implement the educational program for medical students at NYCH&H/Metropolitan and NYMC affiliated hospitals
    • Provide guidance and supervision to all third and forth year medical students while ensuring safe appropriate care for patients
    • Oversee and ensure the quality of didactic and clinical education in all institutions that participate in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Clerkships
    • Administer and maintain an educational environment conducive to learning while monitoring medical student experiences and well-being
    • Monitor medical student supervision at all participating institutions. Manage clinical scheduling with site directors and provide input when creating clinical rotation
    • Work closely with clerkship coordinator to meet on-boarding requirements of medical students, including but not limited to program forms, compliance with HIPPA, Fraud and Abuse, Compliance training and access to hospitals EMR
    • Develop and use dependable measures to assess progressive medical student responsibilities and competencies
    • Work closely with NYMC Medical Education office on curriculum development and integration of PM&R into basic sciences curriculum
    • Work closely with NYCH&H/Metropolitan and all affiliated hospitals ensuring safe and appropriate care for patients
    • Prepare and submit all information required and requested by the NYMC office of Medical Education and ensure that the information is submitted is accurate and complete
    • Participate in subcommittees and task forces, and internal review panels as requested
    • Provide a final evaluation for each medical student who completes the Clerkship

    Clinical Responsibilities:


    • Up-to, but no more than 10 hours per week
    • Examine patients, orders or perform appropriate diagnostic tests
    • Formulates diagnosis, directs or performs appropriate therapeutic treatments and counsels patients
    • Collaborate effectively and respectfully with patient and families, house-staff, medical students and all levels of clinical staff
    • Gives guidance and direction to the house staff, medical students, and other members of the healthcare team
    • Participate in the teaching of house staff, in staff conferences, and in research projects as directed
    • All other clinical duties consistent with your medical board appointment and Professionalism expected as an Attending Physician in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
    • Other clinical duties as assigned



    • ABMS BC/BE in Rehabilitation Medicine 
    • NYS License in good standing
