    In partnership with NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island our teams accommodate more than 250,000 outpatient visits, more than 89,000 emergency room visits, and with 371 beds, more than 15,000 inpatient admissions annually. The hospital maintains a strong academic affiliation with SUNY Downstate Medical Center and New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in order to maintain its high standards of healthcare delivery.

    Responsibilities

    • Elicit a detailed and accurate medical history, perform a complete physical examination and record all pertinent data

    • Perform and/or interpret and/or order routine diagnostic studies including routine laboratory, procedures, common radiological studies and EKG tracings

    • Inform the supervising Physician of all changes in the patients conditions and pertinent diagnostic results

    • Performs therapeutic procedures, including injections, nasogastric and urinary catheterization, and insertion of intravenous lines

    • Perform patient rounds, collect data and write pertinent progress notes on charts

    • Refer to appropriate sub-specialty consultants

    • Counsel patients regarding physical and mental health, as well as provide patient information on nutrition, health promotion, pertinent health education and, if needed continued care

    • Develop management plans in accordance with established protocols in conjunctions with the attending physician


     
    Organizational Relationships:

    • Report to the Director of the Department and the designated supervising physician(s).
    • Report administratively to the Chief PA
    • Work collaboratively with the representatives from dietary, nursing, respiratory, social services and other patient care/support service departments

     

     

     

    Qualifications

    • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program
    • Current Board Certification from the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
    • Licensed Physician Assistant by the New York State Department of Education
    • Bachelor's degree
    • Current BLS certification
    • D.E.A. Certificate
    • Infection Control Certificate
