  • Overview

    In partnership with NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan our teams provide care for over 313,000 outpatient visits, nearly 70,000 emergency room visits and more than 13,000 inpatient admissions annually. The hospital maintains an academic affiliation with New York Medical College.

    Responsibilities

    • Demonstrates knowledge of the Privacy and Security rules outlined in the HIPAA guidelines
    • Successfully completes the mandatory Health + Hospitals orientation
    • Adheres and conforms to all hospital and departmental guidelines, policies and procedures
    • Adheres to the departmental attendance policy
    • Maintains room inventory and equipment checklist at the beginning f shift prior to patient entering the room, according to team leader requirements
    • Review Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and/or other documentation to confirm the following: The correct patient is present for a given examination, to confirm that physicians orders are accurate and appropriate. If conflicts occur regarding the patient's history/symptoms, the technologist should seek advice from the ordering physician or a radiologist Assures that all documentation is completed prior to the examination, with regards to, informed consent, the universal protocol/time-out checklist, lab results, etc.
    • Should demonstrate knowledge of the registration of patients arrive at the department when support staff is unavailable to do so.
    • Demonstrates the knowledge of the proper patient positioning, imaging technique and equipment setting, producing high-quality images, utilizing appropriate film markers. Excellent knowledge of imaging protocol is necessary to accommodate any variations due to patient condition. Seeking advice from radiologist as needed.
    • Demonstrates the knowledge and use of radiation protection, including proper technical factors, collimation and shielding. Applies all standards set by the Department of radiology, Federal and State Radiation Protection Agencies.
    • Demonstrates a familiarity with the use of all immobilization devices and exercises goof judgement with the application, seeking advice/assistance as needed
    • Evaluates exam for technical accuracy and confirms that completed examinations are delivered to the Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS)
    • Documents the completion of each examination as required by departmental protocol, this ensures that all reports created by the radiologists can be seen globally throughout the organization.
    • Assumes leadership responsibilities in the absence of team leaders, but contacts the appropriate administrator for advice when unusual problems and/or circumstances results.      

    Qualifications

    • Valid and current license as a Radiologic Technologist as indicated by the NYS Department of Health
    • Completion of an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology
    • Must be registered by ARRT to perform CT and/or MRI
    • Proficient in all areas of general Radiologic technology, and one other modality
    • Must be able to lift or move 50 pounds without assistance
