  • Overview

    In partnership with NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan our teams provide care for over 313,000 outpatient visits, nearly 70,000 emergency room visits and more than 13,000 inpatient admissions annually. The hospital maintains an academic affiliation with New York Medical College.


    Assists in direct and indirect patient care under the direct supervision of an Ophthalmologist.


    • Manage patient flow to and from exam rooms.
    • Elicit and record medical history on patient.
    • Prepare patients for treatment and assist ophthalmologist in performance of patient exam.
    • Take visual acuity of patient.
    • Measure performance of auto-refractions and intraocular pressure checks on patient.
    • Perform visual field testing on referred patients and accessing all visual field data when patient is seen in the eye clinic.
    • Perform Optical Coherence Tomography and endothelial cell counts on referred patients.
    • Represents the department in all health fairs.
    • Continually update all patient literature.
    • All other duties as assigned.


    • High School diploma or equivalency.
    • At least 1 year experience in an eye care environment (student experience will be considered).
    • Knowledge of medical terminology related to Ophthalmology.
    • Understanding of ophthalmic equipment and testing.
    • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks with strong attention to detail and documentation.
    • Prior experience in a fast-paced, high customer volume work environment is highly desirable.
    • Formal opthalmic training preferred
