The service provides some of the most comprehensive and unique treatment modalities in the country, including specialty housing units for individuals with serious mental illness, a 24-hour on-call psychiatric service, robust creative arts programming, a strong DBT training program, clinics in each of the facilities, substance use treatment, integrated re- entry services, and relationships with multiple training institutions throughout the city.   Staff physicians provide primary care to patients in jail based clinics, perform intake evaluation and treatment and provide emergency care with the support of Emergency Medicine physicians. The healthcare system is a single-payer system that requires no physician time dedicated to billing. No administrative work is expected outside of work hours, promoting career/life balance. The hospital is academically affiliated with SUNY Downstate Medical Center and trains their medical students and OBGYN residents.  Kings County is located in the East Flatbush/Prospect-Lefferts section of Brooklyn, close to the 2 and 5 subways. Our patients are diverse, with the majority being Afro-Caribbean. Most of our patients are native English speakers. Knowledge of French/Haitian Creole is helpful, but not required.
