We expanded our Anesthesia Care model, taking a leadership role in navigating perioperative process, in close friendly collaboration with surgeons and nursing staff. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County is seeking to expand current services with the addition of a full-time Director of Midwifery.  Kings County Hospital operates a state-of-the-art Labor and Delivery room and a newly renovated Women's Health Center, which serves residents of Brooklyn and Staten Island. The hospital is academically affiliated with SUNY Downstate Medical Center.   Kings County is located in the East Flatbush/Prospect-Lefferts section of Brooklyn, close to the 2 and 5 subways. Our patients are diverse, with the majority being afro-Caribbean. Most of our patients are native English speakers. Knowledge of French/Haitian Creole is helpful, but not required.   The Director of Midwifery is responsible for the overall planning, development and management of the administrative, clinical, educational, research and evaluative functions required for a midwifery practice embedded within the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health.  Staff midwives provide primary healthcare in inpatient and outpatient settings within a collaborative model of care to clients across the health spectrum.

The hospital is academically affiliated with SUNY Downstate Medical Center in order to maintain its high standards of healthcare delivery.   Kings County is located in the East Flatbush/Prospect-Lefferts section of Brooklyn, close to the 2 and 5 subways. The Vice Chairperson supports the Chairperson to achieve the vision for the Department. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is a unified Department across two campuses, Jacobi Medical Center and North Central Bronx Hospital. Both facilities are members of NYC Health + Hospitals, the largest public health system in the country, and serve the diverse community in the surrounding neighborhoods of the Bronx and lower Westchester County. Jacobi Medical Center and North Central Bronx Hospital (NCB) are major clinical affiliates and teaching sites of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and have recently developed a teaching relationship with City University of New York. Jacobi is a 457-bed tertiary referral center with a Level III NICU. NCB is a 232-bed community hospital with a loyal patient following.   The faculty represent all specialties within OBGYN including Maternal Fetal Medicine, Genetics, Gynecologic Oncology, Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery, Urogynecology, and Reproductive Endocrinology. The Department focuses on delivering the highest quality care to our patients. We employ multidisciplinary simulation, huddling, and debriefs to promote teamwork and standard care to continually improve our processes. We have a relatively young faculty that is eager to develop academically and work collaboratively with nurses, midwives and physician assistants to deliver the highest quality care to our patients in a safety net setting.

Approximately 25% of new admissions per year to the NYC jail system will receive care on the mental health service. This service strives to provide safe, holistic and evidence-based therapeutic interventions for the diverse range of mental health issues that face the population, from serious mental illness to the natural struggles that accompany incarceration. The service provides some of the most comprehensive and unique treatment modalities in the country, including specialty housing units for individuals with serious mental illness, a 24-hour on-call psychiatric service, robust creative arts programming, a strong DBT training program, clinics in each of the facilities, substance use treatment, integrated re- entry services, and relationships with multiple training institutions throughout the city.
